Retreat (Getaway #1) by Jay Crownover

Every once in a while, you need to get away from it all.

I was a woman on the edge, shaken and shattered after a breakup that felt like it tore my entire world apart.

My best friend, sick of watching me drown in misery and melancholy, harassed me until I agreed to go with her on a week-long wilderness retreat.

She promised days spent bonding and getting in touch with our inner bad-asses.
It was supposed to be all about the two of us roughing it and making do with the bare minimum. She assured me we were going to be pushed to our limits in ways that were unimaginable. Neither one of us could have ever guessed just how right she was.

Nowhere in the glossy brochure did it say anything about the fact I was going to have to battle the insufferable but deliciously rugged and sexy trail guide instead of the elements. The brochure also forgot to mention the part that warned when you left civilization behind, there was no place to pack your inhibitions and fears.

I was told that I would be facing a week where the only thing I should expect was the unexpected. However, no one mentioned that I was going to have to fight for my life…and my heart as soon as I ventured into the unknown.

I was a pro at hiding from my feelings but when it came time to face a real threat, one that could change everything, I learned I was more of a no surrender, no retreat kind of girl.

Retreat is a standalone novel, the first in the Getaway series which centers on the hardheaded and brokenhearted Warner brothers and the women that dare to love them.

These boys are very good at putting the wild in wilderness.

I LOVE COWBOYS!! Old Westerns and modern day. Give me a man on a horse with a hat and I'm happy. Don't get me wrong, I love my bad boys that love, but there is something special about a strong man who is protective of his family. Jay Crownover's new Getaway series introduces us to three brothers, modern day cowboys, who have turned their working ranch into a dude ranch.

Cyrus Warner is the oldest brother, and he redefines the term "cowboy"! He feels more at home behind the desk of the business but he goes on the trail with the last group when the middle brother, Sutton, a single dad gets called away at the last minute. Cyrus is saddled with an unusual group of tourists, including Leora (Leo). The story is told from Leo's perspective, and it is fantastic. Leo is a city girl, through and through. Leo comes with her friend Emrys (Em) to get away after a nasty breakup with her boyfriend.

This isn't the typical boy-meets-girl story. This is action packed, mystery inclusive, cannot stop reading, romance thriller. The sparks between the couples is enough to start a forest fire. Cy may not look like a typical cowboy, but he is John Wayne cowboy through and through. I can't wait to read Escape. This is the beginning a new series and it is fantastic!

DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL PARTNER:

Caring. Hard-working. A devoted family man, loves kids.
Clean cut, funny, smart, quiet, but a good communicator.

~ Asia Jenson

DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL PARTNER:

Independent. Tall, blonde, sexy. Outgoing. Intelligent,
neat. Unslutty. Confident. Loves to travel. Committed.

~ Talon Valentine

A SOCIAL EXPERIMENT.

The concept was scary but exciting...

Marry a total stranger.

Live together for six months.

Journal everything. (Feelings. Fights. All of it.)

After six months, we each get $50K in trade for our journals, whether we stay married or not. But the goal is to commit to the experience and see if the relationship experts could put together the perfect matches.

I have never been lucky in love. This was my chance to find my soulmate.

I couldn’t wait to meet the man the experts felt was perfect for me.

My hopes were immediately dashed when I saw him at the altar.

Shit. I married my worst nightmare.

Right?!

** can be read as a stand-alone! **

Let me first say that I read this series out of order. But I couldn't resist when I read the synopsis for this book. Talon is the youngest member in the band of Ashes & Embers and he's wanting to settle down, but the band is huge, and he wants someone who isn't in it for the fame or money. His mom suggests he be part of an experiment she is doing in collaboration with a psychologist friend of hers. He would allow them to choose him a wife, marry sight unseen, and live together for six months. Asia Jenson is just tired of the dating game, tired of everyone thinking she's too weird. She's quiet, but extremely creative. She wants to be loved, so she agrees to the experiment when her friend tells her at it.

I loved the whole concept. I loved Talon's character because he truly is committed to the relationship. At first, they are both awkward. Neither one is who the other was expecting, especially in the physical sense. Asia is embarrassed and feels very out of her place because she has no family. But the more they commit to the marriage and forget about the experiment, the more they realize they have more in common than they thought.

I'm addicted! Thoroughly ADDICTED! Carian Cole gives us a glimpse of the other band members to make me need to read the other books in the series, but not enough to take away from Talon and Asia's story. Loved it! It was so romantic, and sexy, and just what I needed to read! New Fan!! - 5 Stars!
