On May 15, 1975, fifteen-year-old Ginny Lemon is abducted from a convenience store in Fort Lauderdale by a member of one of the most notorious and brutal motorcycle gangs in South Florida.
From that moment on, her life is forever changed. She gets a new name, a new identity and a new life in the midst of the gang’s base on the edge of the Florida Everglades—a frightening, rough and violent world much like the swamps themselves, where everyone has an alias and loyalty is tantamount to survival.
And at the center of it all is the gang’s leader, Grizz: massive, ruggedly handsome, terrifying and somehow, when it comes to Ginny, tender. She becomes his obsession and the one true love of his life.
So begins a tale of emotional obsession and manipulation, of a young woman ripped from everything she knows and forced to lean on the one person who provides attention, affection and care: her captor. Precocious and intelligent, but still very much a teenager, Ginny struggles to adapt to her existence, initially fighting and then coming to terms with her captivity.
Will she be rescued? Will she escape? Will she get out alive—or get out at all? Part psychological thriller, part coming-of-age novel, filled with mystery, romance and unexpected turns, Nine Minutes takes readers into the world of one motorcycle gang and inside the heart of a young girl, whose abduction brought about its fall.
GINNY /KIT'S VIDEO
Nine Minutes by Beth Flynn takes you on the ride of your life, well at the least it is the ride through the life of Ginny Lemons. Flynn gets your attention on the first page, and she keeps this book on your mind for long after you have finished reading Nine Minutes. To me, this is what makes a book exceptional, will I remember it in a month? I read around 20 books a month, so for me to remember a book and think about it for days or in this case weeks, it has made me feel something. I like that in a book. I like feels! Sometimes books will change the way I feel about subjects, make me see things in a different light. That's what I think Flynn did with Nine Minutes for me. Not that I would ever condone kidnapping or think that was a good idea, don't get me wrong, but for Ginny, I really think it probably was the best thing that could happen to her.
Ginny lived with her mom and step-dad in Florida. It is not like she was really mistreated by them, she wasn't abused, but she wasn't cared for by them. There was never anything to eat, no one ever bought her clothes, they really didn't care what she did or with whom she did it with. This is why I think, she wasn't really as hesitant to go with her kidnapper, and another reason why she didn't try to escape. What did she really have to go back to.
So Ginny arrives to the biker's territory/compound (the hotel) and meets Grizz. She is scared of him, who wouldn't be- he is huge and rough. He does things that she doesn't even want to know about. She is determined to make the best of the situation, and even though he is cruel and vicious, he is never that way towards her, he loves her and takes care of her like no one has before in her life. She does become accustom to the ways of the MC club of time and makes friends.
There are some major twist in this story, that flat out blew my mind- did not see coming! This isn't a sweet loving romance book, Grizz didn't suddenly change and become a model citizen. This was gritty and raw, it felt like a true story. You would almost think, that you are watching Dateline or a movie. Flynn has done a splendid job, I can't wait until she is a seasoned author, she will be kicking booty and taking names!
I don't want to give a lot away of the plot but I recommend this book to anyone who like MC books, suspenseful books, or dark and gritty reads.
I wish I could give it more than 5 stars!
Nine Minutes by Beth Flynn
I have to be totally honest, NINE MINUTES by Beth Flynn is not a book I would normally have picked for myself. However, I would have missed out on an amazing read if I had overlooked it. Beth Flynn is brilliant and left me thinking, “What did I just read?!” Words cannot tell you how much I LOVE this book. April cannot get here fast enough, which is when the second book in the series OUT OF TIME will be released, but, no worries because NINE MINUTES is a standalone. It just leaves you wanting so much more.
A friend had suggested I read it and then a few other people that I am in a book suggestion group were talking about it, so I picked it up and thought I would read a couple of chapters before going to pick up the kids from school. I never wanted to not pick up my kids so bad. But, I called my bestie and told her to start reading it because it was that good and I would need someone to talk to when it ended, she reads way faster than I do. Got home, got the kids to bed and it was on!! Read until almost 2 and then I hit the ending and just did not know what to do with myself. SO, I went to bed and waited until I could get a hold of the bestie first thing in the morning… “DID YOU FINISH?” was the first thing out of my mouth and she said “ALMOST.” So I told her to call me as soon as she was done. I NEEDED TO TALK ABOUT THIS BOOK. When she called back, she and I talked about 30min going back and forth about Grizz and Ginny, aka Kit, and the ending. Oh, my gosh, the beginning takes you by storm but the ending leaves you breathless.
YES, it is that good. I cannot believe that this is a first novel from Beth Flynn and I am not going to tell you anything about the book because you can read the synopsis for yourself. The only thing I am going to tell you is that I am recommending this one to everyone and I cannot wait to get my hands on more. The story is a re-telling of memories from Kit’s point of view, with all the detail you need to get the whole picture. Beth Flynn made me fall in love with a guy, Grizz, which I should and wanted to hate but instead absolutely love. THANK YOU BETH FLYNN!!!
