A KING WHO WALKS IN DARKNESS
The Rhys who has existed for centuries is gone. Stripped of his ability to shift forms, Rhys can no longer embody the majestic, powerful dragon he was at birth. Cut off from his heritage by one of his own, this Dragon King must remain a man, haunted by demons who torment his every waking moment. The darkness would swallow him whole…except a woman so beautiful and haunted becomes the one beam of light in his world…
A DESIRE THAT WILL NOT BE DENIED
Lily Ross is taking the first step in building a new life for herself. Still reeling from a relationship that nearly broke her spirit, Lily is wary of her attraction to brawny, brooding Rhys. The passion burning so brightly between them is a potent temptation, but any entanglement is destined to end in disaster. Yet when a spectre from Lily’s past threatens their growing bond, Rhys is forced to choose with his heart, or lose this woman who has become his one chance at salvation…
Donna Grant never ceases to amaze me! Night’s Blaze picks up right where Hot Blooded ends. Rhys was hit by a mixture of Dragon King and Dark Fae magic preventing him from shifting into his dragon form. Lily is trying to heal, both mentally and physically, at Dreagon after running from an abusive relationship. This book focuses on these two learning to trust each other.
This is the first part of the serial, and it never shies away from the adventure this series is known for. Immediately we are thrust into a meeting of the enemies of the Dragon Kings – the Dark Fae, MI5, and the mysterious Dragon King, whom we presume is Ulrik. From this meeting, we are thrust into many twists and turns, including Henry North’s infiltration into the enemy’s meeting, and it’s only a quarter of the way into the book! If this is how it starts, we’re going to be in for a wild ride – just let it be with a Dragon!
Oh. My. Dragon Kings! Part 2 picks up with Chapters 11-20 and a whole lot happens in those few chapters! The heat generated by Rhys and Lily is SCORCHING HOT!!! Rhys is determined to help Lily heal, and with Rhys, Lily begins to feel stronger.
I do NOT give away spoilers in my reviews. We are halfway into Night’s Blaze and Donna Grant does not disappoint. By the end of Part 2, she has shocked us with a surprise that had my jaw dropping and eager to continue reading. We’re still on a roller-coaster ride, and I don’t know if my racing heart can take it!
Secrets, secrets, secrets! If Parts 1 and 2 were the rollercoaster ride up, Part 3 has us descending at a rapid speed. Secrets are revealed and the danger becomes more intense. A plan is plotted and enemies are targeted. And then…my heart is racing!!!!
We are now three-quarters of the way into Night’s Blaze and there is no predictability to the plot to be seen. Twists, turns, and shocking revelations develop with this release; we haven’t even hit the steepest drop yet. I don’t know if I can take much more! Marvelous!
This is why I love Donna Grant’s books. They do not follow the regular template for romance, fantasy, or paranormal. Her writing puts you through a whole range of emotions. I have smiled, laughed, cried, yelled, and yes – I even threw my kindle – not once, but twice! I had to read the ending three times just to make sure I read it correctly and then just sat and stared at the wall for thirty minutes. Why? Because, Donna changed the rollercoaster ride again. The loops and turns amaze me every time.
Donna has created a world with such originality that it is hard to limit the genre description to fantasy or paranormal. Her books take you to a place of mystery, intrigue, seduction, and romance while lulling you into the belief that dragons, magic, fae, and druids are a reality.
I don’t pretend to try and guess which direction she will lead us to, but I know that her books will be on my pre-order list and I’ll gladly follow.
Dayreader Reviews give Night’s Blaze a SCORCHING 5 STARS!
About the Author...
She was born and raised in Texas but loves to travel. Her adventures have taken her throughout the United States as well as to Jamaica, Mexico, and Scotland. Growing up on the Texas/Louisiana border, Donna’s Cajun side of the family taught her the “spicy” side of life while her Texas roots gave her two-steppin’ and bareback riding.
Despite deadlines and voracious reading, Donna still manages to keep up with her two children, four cats, and one long haired Chihuahua.
