This is a stand-alone novel and does not need to be read in order.
Josie Decker has spent her whole life as an unloved and unwanted bother. Like a wild horse captured and bridled, Josie’s spirit is broken. She devises a plan to start her life anew; silently biding her time, she waits for the perfect moment. When that moment arises, Josie takes the opportunity and runs freely into an uncertain future in Torey Hope.
Kyle Martin is a tattooed, pierced, bad boy with a heart of gold. Marching to the beat of his own drummer, Kyle meets his perfect match early on in life. Devastating circumstances beyond his control plunge Kyle into dark despair and suffocating blackness. In an effort to escape the blackness, Kyle accepts an offer from an old friend and moves to Torey Hope.
Josie and Kyle hit it off as close friends and kindred spirits right away. Both are harboring secrets and sadness, but the connection between them is bringing light back to their smiles, their hearts, their lives. Kyle and Josie cling to each other as they battle guilt and crushed spirits. Through it all, with a lot of help from an unexpected accomplice, Kyle and Josie come to view each other in a new light.
When the past catches up to them and causes their lives to come crashing down, will Kyle and Josie get the chance to see where their future is headed? Or will they be forced to admit they waited too long to embrace what was right in front of them the whole time?
A heart-wrenching and heart-warming love story of cherishing the past while embracing the future
A.D. Ellis hit another homerun with her new book Loving Josie, it's a book about learning to love again and learning to let yourself be loved. It is in the Torey Hope series, but this can be read as a standalone novel. If you had read Ellis' other Tory Hope novels and loved the characters in them, the will make a few appearances but you don't have to know their full stories for this story to be enjoyable. Ellis really has a great way incorporating her past characters in with her new ones. They become friends, help each other out, run into each here and there. I just love getting that little peek of all of my favorites characters again, it makes them feel more like your friends.
Never judge a book by its cover. You will miss the most amazing gift, if you never open the wrapping. Kyle is just that. Wrapped in tattoo's and piercings, Kyle looks like someone you would not want to meet in a dark alley. Inside, Kyle Martin is a beautiful soul with so much to give. Kyle had everything he ever wanted and then it was snatched away from him. How could this happen? Kyle became a dark, lonely soul looking for a place to belong. How could he continue on? There was no way he would ever be the same. He would never be able to let anyone in again.
Who doesn't love a new baby? How do you wish you had found out you were pregnant sooner so you could have ended the pregnancy? Then to know that the baby was born into a family that didn't want them! What a lonely existence.
All of her life, Josie did what her parents thought best! No one cared about what Josie wanted; she was just expected to do what was right! The business transaction that her parents arranged was for appearances only. Josie had no choice in the matter; her future was not hers. Josie had to escape!
Everything changed when Josie showed up in Torey Hope on the doorstep of her Uncle Robert Decker. Josie instantly knew that her Uncle was very different from her dad. Josie experienced the feelings of love and belonging for the first time in her life and she felt at home for once. Then she meets Kyle. Josie can tell that Kyle is so much like her; suffering and not able to allow anyone in. They become friends.
A woman from Kyle's past intervenes to help lead Josie. I would never have seen this coming but I absolutely loved how the woman from Kyle's past becomes involved in Kyle and Josie's life. This was the only way that Josie and Kyle would have ever moved on!
I love Kyle and Josie! I have never met two people who were suffering from such heartache and loss but still managed to get up and put on a brave face every day. Getting on with your life is never easy but in order to experience the joy of love, you have to live. Your past is all part of your life and has gotten you where you are now!
I give Loving Josie 4.5 out of 5 stars!
