A year ago, when he walked into his house and found his fiancée’s face in his best friend’s crotch, his life changed forever and it hasn’t been the same since.
On his first night out since the horrible incident, we run into the ex-skank. Seeing the devastation in his eyes, I made a promise that I would help him get over her. I told him that a pretend relationship between us would work. It would help him move on.
I didn’t count on my heart or his getting in the way. And I sure as hell didn’t count on not being able to tell when pretend turned to reality. When it all implodes, the only thing left is the truth.
Sometimes though, the truth? It hides and we have to dig deep to find it. To make it come to the surface, we have to give it a little talking to. We have to give it a little Sass.
It was a quick read (and a stand alone) about a girl who has the chance to "pretend" to be in a relationship with her long time crush, who also happens to be her brothers best friend. At first I was expecting it to be the same as all other "I'm secretly in love with my brothers best friend" books. It was not. Thankfully. Reed and Sass are friends so it is more of a "friends to lovers" story and less of a "forbidden fruit" story.
This story has it all, angst, drama and spice. Reed and Sass light up the pages with their chemistry but also make you so mad you have to put the book (in my case kindle ) down and walk away because they are both too messed up to see what is right in front of them.
I loved that it was Reed that was the one burned and the one that was gunshy about moving on and it was Sass who helped him work out some of his demons.
The story kept me engaged and had me eating up the pages because I HAD to know what was going to happen next. As usual with Laramie Briscoe's work you are transported to the place the story takes place and she makes you feel the emotions of the characters.
I know that if I knew for a fact that I cold find myself a Reed I would haul my butt to Alabama without a glance backward!
If you are looking for a quick, hot and sweet read, I highly recommend Sass.
I give it 4.5 stars!
