Having been a reaper as long as she can remember, Nivian knows that what she does is essential in maintaining balance. After being assigned to a rushed mark she finds that there is more to this human than any other she has encountered.

Kain had been living an ordinary life without a second thought until he meets Nivian who turns his world upside down. He is thrust into a world of hunters and reapers. The keepers of life and death have been feuding for centuries over a reason no one can even remember.

With Kain having been marked for reaping, and Nivian being hunted, they forge a friendship and together must find the truth in order to keep balance in check. Wrong choices could destroy everything. As they journey they discover hidden histories, powers, and lies and truths that have been spun since the beginning of time. The consequence of failure, unimaginable.

The Reapers was a pull of two sides that neither Nivian nor Kain knew which side to believe was the “good” side.

Nivian is a Reaper who reaped humans’ life energy from them to be resorted into the earth. Reapers are given a mark and the reapers choose how to have the humans’ life end. Nivian was given a mark and while Nivian was playing out the way the marks’ life would end another human stepped in and saved the marks life. A reaper cannot be seen by any human unless the reaper allows them to see them or seconds before the reaper cuts the life energy from the human.

Kain is the human who steps in to save the makes’ life at the last minute while he was also distracted by the reaper he saw in the middle of the street; which he didn’t understand why she would be standing in such a dangerous place. Kain found himself seeing this woman stalking him wherever he went, so he decided he was going to find out why she was stalking him. From the moment they met face to face, and finally talked, their lives would forever be changed; and possible the worlds.
I really enjoyed reading this book from the beginning to finish.

Everything these two went through together struggling within them and with each other kept me on my toes until the end. You will read unexpected twists throughout this book that had my jaw drop at the understanding of what I just read.

I have not read anything about reapers, so I am very happy to say that I was pleased to read this book by Ali and understand every little detail about what she was describing.

I give The Reapers by Ali Winters 4.5 stars and I am excited to read what she has next for us.

Flirting With Death by Ali Winters

Being a reaper has its perks, but also its downsides.
While on an assignment, Evander is caught off guard by an unmarked human. Captivated, he is unable to tear himself away.

This is why reapers don’t associate with mortals.

Piper was ordinary, just a girl looking for love. And all she knows is that her current boyfriend isn’t it. An unfortunate incident and a series of remarkable events turn her world upside down.
But what she finds is the last thing she ever expected—She finds herself falling for the least likely candidate.

This read was much shorter than her other book but it was really interesting.
Evander is a reaper who was given a mark but when he went to watch his mark for ways to end his life Evander became distracted. Evander is a typical reaper and can usually get his mark quickly without complications, but this mark had someone with him that made this mark for Evander that much more complicated.
Even though this was a short read for me I really enjoyed reading about Evander and Piper, the complication. This book left me with unanswered questions though; I understand the ending but for me I wanted more.
I give Flirting with Death 4 starts and ready for the next read from Ali Winters!

The Storm (The Storm #3.5) by Samantha Towle

STORM (noun)—a turbulent disturbance; a disruption or dispute.

Jake Wethers’s life is perfect. He’s married to the woman he’s always loved, and they have three beautiful children. The Mighty Storm is still going strong, and his record label is thriving.

Jake has everything—a life he thought he would never have and one that he didn’t think he deserved.

Not so long ago, Jake’s life wasn’t perfect. The unexpected and untimely death of his best friend, Jonny Creed, sent an already out-of-control Jake spiraling down further.

Drug addiction. Alcohol. Women.

Jake was in the fast lane to following Jonny to the grave until Tru Bennett walked back into his life and changed everything.

But now, the past that Jake left behind has come back to find him. And what the past brings with it is going to be one of the biggest challenges he has ever faced.

Be still my beating heart! Jake Wethers *Sigh*
Okay, so when I heard there was going to be a novella with Jake and Tru I had mixed emotions. First I was elated, then I began to panic. So many questions came to mind…
What is going to happen to Tru and Jake’s HEA?  Why is Samantha Towle messing with a good thing? Is this necessary?
The first question you will have to read the book to get your answer, but the other two I will answer for you.
Why is Samantha Towle messing with a good thing? Well she has stated that the series although completed was not complete. She was absolutely RIGHT!
Is this necessary? YES!  This is the story that you didn’t know was missing until you read it.
Samantha Towle did an amazing job of keeping “Tru” to the characters and their history.  There was no concocted drama and the growth of Jake and the band is wonderful. Although we only see glimpses of Tom and Denny we see they are all grown up with families of their own.
The story was full of heart while pulling at your heart strings.
Speaking of families, Jake and Tru’s daughter Belle stole the show with her absolute cuteness.
I’m just mid piss when I hear my baby girl’s sleepy voice from behind me, “Dada, why I not have a peenis?”
Shifting to the side so that I’m covering myself from Belle’s view, I glance over my shoulder, a chuckle escaping me. “’Cause you’re a girl, Beauty.”
“But I wanna be a boy, like you, JJ, and Billy.” She juts her lips out, pouting. “I wanna peenis!”
She’s standing there, demanding a penis, in her Disney princess pajamas, with her arms folded across her chest, her foot tapping.
A well rounded and short story that packs a punch in short time. This is a wonderful addition to the series and as bittersweet as is it is the story is now complete! And the last CHAPTER! OMG
5++++ Stormy Stars!

The Dark Kings are sworn to defend an ancient legacy of dragon magic. But their fiercest challenge lies in the modern world, where a woman’s love conquers all. These are their stories.

This book contains the first 3 Dark Kings prequels + a bonus story, "Passion's Claim":

"Dark Craving"

Fueled by ancient magic—and enflamed by human desire—the Dragon King known as Hal can transform himself at will into one of the legendary winged creatures he is sworn to protect. But one thing he can never do is fall in love...with a mortal woman.

"Night’s Awakening"

The dark immortal warriors were never meant to experience human desire. But when Guy, a member of an ancient order of shape-shifting warriors, meets Elena—a mere mortal whose beauty and blind ambition shakes him to his core—all bets are off...

"Dawn’s Desire"

For centuries, the Dragon Kings have hidden their shapeshifting powers from the world. But when a mortal enemy threatens to expose them, the warrior Banan must leave his secret lair in the Highlands to risk his life for the dragons within—and resist the temptations of human love.

"Passion’s Claim"

Banan has been waiting for centuries for someone like Jane. Guy knew it was love at first sight with Elena. Can two Dragon Kings commit to two immortal women for eternity? Or does fate have something else in store?

I have to say that when I started this book I was overly excited to see what Donna Grant had in store for me to read in her series, The Dark Kings. Dark Heat is full of desires, expectations, and closeness that is described as family. The way this book was formatted had me aching for more after each chapter and when I was finished I was left satisfied but also craving more.

The men throughout Dark Heat were strong, smart, and very capable not only of taking care of themselves but they also had a responsibility to take care of many others. I caught myself feeling overcome with love and compassion for these men
throughout this book.

The women of Dark Heat pulled at every part of your heart, soul, and mind through their journeys alongside these men and with each other. Not only are they battling their feelings, but they are also battling an unknown enemy that is threatening their secrets.

I have become a HUGE Donna Grant fan while reading these books and cannot wait to read more. Dark Heat will leave you overcome with love and anticipation for the next book.  The Kings had such devotion; the women had such spunk you will not want to put this one down.

I give Dark Heat: The Dark Kings Stories a very well deserved 5 star rating!

**This book was gifted in exchange for HONEST review**
I loved this book, this is the first A.D. Ellis book I have read, and it held up to my expectations from people who had referred her books. I would give this book 5 stars across the board. The beginning of the book was so sweet in their loving each other since they children to watching them get older and their love and respect for each other growing and evolving. Zoey had this moment after a small deterrent from their plan where she said she wants real love with Zach and not perfect love. She goes on to explain how perfect love really isn’t love how it is an image people portray but how real love is hard and worth the work. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a sweet story with a twist, Ms. Ellis kept me wondering who the gentleman in black always lurking in the background way, well I guessed wrong and I loved that! Congratulations on an amazing book!

Synopsis Ghost Files 3

Nine, ten, never reap again…

Seventeen year old, Mattie Hathaway, has enough on her plate without having to deal with the latest teenage ghost drama. The ghosts of eight murdered girls are out for her blood. They blame Mattie for their deaths. She has to figure out what happened to them before they make sure she ends up just like them…dead and angry.

Not only that, but she has to face the greatest fear of her young life, the death of the only person she’s ever loved. Can she let nature take its course or will she interfere and cause the balance of life and death to spiral out of control?

She’s out of time, and doesn’t know if she should trust Silas, the demon who has taken a very disturbing interest in her or her father, a man just as evil as Silas.

Either way, she has to make a choice. But what will it cost her and those she loves?

Review for Ghost Files 3

Apryl Baker has done it again. Ghost Files Volume 3 is just as nail bitingly good as volume one! Not only is her writing full of suspension it also carries a lot of emotion. This book had me tearing up a few times, and angry at her antagonists. Mattie coming from foster home after foster home finally has found some peace in friendship. She also finds some real family….Mattie is still stubborn and needs to find truth. She does so with the help of a demon named Silas, and her trio of protectors, Eli, Caleb, and Officer Dan. When Apryl ties up loose ends she creates more, making you crave the next book even more. I rate this book 5 Stars.

~Not The One is Full Length Standalone Adult Romance~

My name is Reyna Miracle.
Even though a part of my name is Miracle, there’s nothing miraculous about me.
My body portrays the tales of my life.
Every feeling, every heartbreak, every emotion.
Marked. Inked. Stained.
A walking canvas of my messed up truth.

But there’s one confession I can’t put in a tattoo.
A confession that will kill me to tell, but my best friend died before I had the chance.

Now I’m left with him.
The only one who can hold me in the night and squeeze that spot on my neck that feels like my lifeline between sanity and chaos.

But we don’t work together.
We’re absolute poison for each other.
We’re a stifling, suffocating, sickness of darkness.

But I feel safe...because I’ve made an art of pushing people away.

Now he’s pushing back…
And making me believe...
Making me wonder...
Maybe, just maybe...
I could be the one.

After several swallows, he closes his eyes and lowers the bottle. “Easy there, sport.” My voice has a menacing tone to it. “We both said we were going to cool it on the drinking.”

“You just nicked my entire glass of red!” he retorts.

“You look like this isn’t your first bottle, Hayden.”

He sighs heavily and glares at me. His damaged, hard gray eyes searching my face for further argument. Mindlessly, he glances down to my chest and the lids of his eyes droop as heat flourishes beneath them.

I instantly know he’s no longer angry about the wine.

He begins to stalk slowly toward me—his tall, wiry build gliding silently across the white tile floor. I back up until I hit the half wall beside the fridge. “We said we weren’t going to do this anymore, Hayden.” I hold my hand out, pressing it to his firm stomach to stop him from coming any closer. I want to walk away, but a larger part of me wants to stop thinking about Liam. And there’s only one way to do that.

Hayden sighs and grabs a piece of my hair. He brings it to his lips. “You look sexy as fuck, Rey. I like your hair like this.” He rubs the silky, dark strand against his lips. A playful smirk dances in his eyes.

“Nice key change, Hay. But you should take those fuck me eyes elsewhere.”

He hunches over and nuzzles his mouth into my neck, licking and kissing a trail up to my ear. “Now why would I want to do that?” he whispers, his voice husky.

I can feel him grinning against my skin as goose pimples flare out on my neck beneath his warm breath. I ball up a chunk of his T-shirt into my fist for some semblance of control. His hands move to grip tightly around my waist and I could scream at my body as it arches into his embrace.

This is exactly what Hayden does to me. He makes me lose all sense of thought and purpose. It’s part of the draw. He’s a freaking mess like me and I ache for the pleasure I know he can grant me.

“We say a lot of words,” he mumbles against my neck and nips playfully. “Let’s do less saying…and more fucking.”

Donya's Review

REVIEWER'S NOTE:  Let me say that although several of Dayreader reviewers have read and love Amy Daws, this was my first one. I've seen how fun loving and humorous Amy is, so I was expecting a lot of humor. When I started reading this book, I was blown completely away! It had humor, yes, but this book was so deep, it brought tears to my eyes.

REVIEW:  How can you love someone when you don't love yourself? That's the question Amy Daws proposes in her new standalone novel. Reyna Miracle doesn't feel much like her name - far from it. Suffering from survivor's guilt, she drowns her feelings and loneliness in drink and sharing her bed with her best friend, Hayden. They say misery loves company - right? Until she runs into the biggest mistake of her life and one of the main reasons she's left with survivor's guilt - Liam.

Everything is perfect with Hayden - no strings, no feelings - until Liam steps back into the picture and Rey realizes Hayden has feelings for her too. So she does what she does best and pushes back.

This is a fantastic book! I had my doubts going into it because I was expecting something else. But surprise after surprise awaited me, and watching Rey as she slowly declines to hit rock bottom was intense. Hayden and Liam both battled their own demons and the three held on by a thread. Rey was not the most likable character in the beginning but her character stuck with me so I had know why.

This is a love story, but not in the traditional sense. This is about loving yourself first - truly loving yourself - before any other love can develop. Amy Daws added her own flair of humor with Frank, Rey "boss" and soon to be best friend. His clothing choices, outright love for life, and brutal honesty when she needed, made him the ultimate supporting character.

I'm giving Amy Daws' Not the One a solid 5-stars! It warmed my heart and made me smile.

The Warrior Vampire (Last True Vampire #2) by Kate Baxter

The vampire was built for sin, every inch of him tight and bulky with corded muscle. A killer, that much was apparent, and she couldn't help but wonder if his appetite for violence would rival his appetites for other...things.

A WOMAN SEDUCED

Naya Morales is no ordinary mortal. Born with a shaman's power, she has devoted her life to tracking down stolen magic—and punishing those who take it. But one fateful night, she follows the alluring call of a sensual magic that is too glorious to be true—and finds herself face to face with a stunningly handsome thief who is too magnificent to resist...

A VAMPIRE ENSLAVED

From the moment he sees her, Ronan knows Naya is his mate. Driven by a deep, almost mystical connection, he aches for her body, hungers for her blood, and swears their souls are anchored together. Naya refuses to believe the words of a vampire—or risk the wrath of her tribe. But when she tries to make Ronan her prisoner, neither chains of silver nor fires of hell can help her escape the truth: she is the one who's been captured...

Amy's Review

*This book received from NETGALLEY*
Naya is a witch in a tribe of shapeshifter that are quite honestly stuck in medieval times. Seriously they need a dose of feminism and like fast! Her primary function is to banish demons in the town they live and she is VERY good at it.

Ronan is vampire without a memory when Naya stumbles upon him, writhing in pain if the rain. Naya does not trust Ronan because he is oozing with the same dark power as the other demons she has been destroying but she hesitates to kill him like the others because be somehow knows her name.

That is where things get interesting.

I LOVED this book but only gave it 4 stars and I will get back to that in a moment. First let me tell you why I will be picking up the rest of the series.
  • The sexy scenes are HOT!
  • It is action packed once you get past the first couple of chapters
  • The writing style is FANTASTIC, the story flows wonderfully and seamlessly. The story is told in the third person so it is super easy to follow who and what is going on.
  • Naya is a bad a$$ chick that takes no guff from anyone (except the tribal elders) and is still growing into her maturity.
  • Did I mention the SEXY HOT VAMPIRE scenes?
  • Ronan is sexy and he does not give up even though he had the thought to do so many times. However if he felt that Naya was in trouble he would quickly desert that train of thought and look out for her.
  • The Tribe dynamic was so bad it made the perfect antagonist for this story.

Ok so here are the reasons that I only gave it 4 stars.
  • Although the writing style was great, there were some repeated phrases that were not just similar they were exact duplicates, like she copy and pasted the whole thing.
  • Naya took to long to be more than a tribal pawn and the fact that she knew she was and let it continue in any fashion was annoying. Thankfully she realized her issue and fixed it.
  • Naya also kept avoiding her feelings for Ronan when she could feel their connection and was willing to hurt his feelings over and over to avoid intimacy, for too long.
  • Ronan was a bit thin skinned, He would be insulted by the smallest slight even when he claims he can feel her through their connection he still gets mad about her saying the wrong thing.
  • Sioban can have a consort but Ronan's blood will boil if he is intimate with another? I don't understand that one, at all.
All in all these are pretty minor things that get resolved but some of the things happened more than others and it took away from the story a bit.

I would highly recommend this to any Paranormal Romance readers out there. You will not disappointed.

Amy M.'s Review

In Donna’s second book of her Dark Sword Series, Forbidden Highlander, we met with Fallon MacLeod, the oldest of the MacLeod brothers. He has taken on his leadership role in order to make up for the past. Lucan MacLeod is at his brother’s side and stepping in when his brother is away. And Quinn, unfortunately, was taken captive by Deirdre where he is staying strong to control his god from being released. Deirdre wants him to release his god that way it will consume him.

We also meet a few new warriors in the quest to find a way to make sure their castle stays to the MacLeod name, to find a way to save Quinn, and defeat Deirdre. The warriors are a bit different than I expected which was an amazing surprise. We didn’t hear about the other warriors that joined the MacLeod brothers in the last book but in Forbidden Warrior she gets more detailed with each of the warriors we have already met and the new ones. To say the least, I got excited to hear about some of their abilities and their past.

Donna Grant managed to bring out action, drama, love, loyalty in this book and my heart was jumping at each new chapter.

I fell in love with Fallon in the first book, but in Forbidden Warrior I was wrapped in his love, desire, loyalty and sadness throughout this book. Donna Grant won me over in Dangerous Highlander, and now in Forbidden Highlander, she has me ready and wanting more! I give Forbidden Highlander 5 stars for excitement, action, and passion!

He’s shocked at how London’s life has changed, yet he’s determined to prove their love is worth fighting for. Is this breakup too big for any hope of a reunion tour? Or can London open her heart to Jared once again?

Donya's Review

*I was gifted this book for an honest review.

This was a hard review for me to write. I love Michelle Valentine's writing. Her style is impeccable. The writing for Wicked Reunion was no different. I loved how the story was told from both Jared and London's view, as well as past and present.

What I did not find appeasing was the love triangle that London was involved in; being married to one brother while secretly in love with the other. Jared's character to me seem too wishy washy - in the band, he was self centered and hateful; but when he comes home, he's all "please forgive me." It did seem as though getting the main couple together took forever, and then, the ending seemed rushed.

Although this was not my favorite story by Michelle Valentine, I could not put it down until it was finished. I will be eagerly awaiting the next book in this rock star series; but I will be giving this book 3 1/5 stars.
