Broken (Broken #1) by Annie Jocoby

Nick O'Hara is, for lack of a better word, a man-wh***. Look in the Urban Dictionary under that word, and his name will no doubt be mentioned. The only qualifications that he looks for in a bed-mate is that the person is hot and breathing. Mainly hot. He has no desire for an emotional connection with another person, and that's the way he lives his life. He has his fabulous wealth and his reputation as a premiere architect, and that's enough for him.

Until Scotty James.

Scotty is a graduate student at Columbia University in New York City. She's broken from traumatic experiences from her years in foster care and homelessness. She has a vulnerability that is intoxicating to Nick, because, deep down, he knows that he is as broken as she.

When Nick pursues Scotty, it seems that she is the only woman who doesn't want to be with him. At first she's a challenge, but Nick soon finds himself falling in love for the first time in his life. With a woman who wants nothing to do with him.

Can Scotty overcome her trust issues and fear to let Nick in? Or will she prove to be too broken to trust?
I am about to go devour everything Annie Jocoby has written.  Broken was THAT good!
Let me first say a great big Thank You to Annie Jocoby for gifting me this copy of Broken in exchange for my honest review.

Wow!  Where to begin......

My Honest Review
The book started out interesting enough.....who doesn't love when their drunk parent is making a scene?  Right off the bat we got right into the thick of things.  I felt like the characters were all well written and even though we hopped right into action, it was not rushed and everyone got their fair share of history.  I love how we got right into the story and each persons history came about as it fit into the story line.
I have never (well, maybe one other time) wanted to strangle a person or throw my kindle!  I was so upset with how Scotty and Nick were acting-yes I know they each had their reasons....but ugh!  I read this book in one day because I just couldn't stop!

Five dishonored soldiers.
Former Special Forces.
One last mission.
These are the men of Hard Ink.

Beckett Murda hates to dwell on the past. But his investigation into the ambush that killed half his Special Forces team and ended his Army career gives him little choice. Just when his team learns how powerful their enemies are, hard-ass Beckett encounters the biggest complication yet—seductive, feisty Katherine Rixey.

A tough, stubborn prosecutor, Kat visits her brothers’ Hard Ink Tattoo following a bad break-up—and finds herself staring down the barrel of a stranger’s gun. Beckett is hard-bodied and sexy as hell, but he’s also the most infuriating man ever. Worse, Kat’s brothers are at war with criminals her office is investigating. When Kat joins the fight, she lands straight in Beckett’s sights—and his arms. Not to mention their enemies’ crosshairs.

Now Beckett and Kat must set aside their differences to work together, because the only thing sweeter than justice is finding love and never letting go.

Review:

Five word that describe this series to me: Phenomenal, breathtaking, heart stopping, thrill ride!

The series started when this group of former soldiers came together to clear false charges made against their unit, but it morphed into this incredible journey of love, friendship, and redemption.

Hard to Let Go is a fast-paced, action-packed thriller, only now readers are finally getting answers to a number of questions as everything comes to a head with protagonists, Beckett Murda and Kat Rixey at the forefront. Questions are answered, conspiracies are uncovered and justice finally prevails but not before more blood is shed and secrets are revealed.

Murda is a man that is alive but is not living. He is dealing with scars that are deeper than his company’s ambush. He is going day by day in cloud of numbness and keeping everyone out. That is until he meets Kat Rixey. For the first time he feels that maybe there is something worth living for.

Kat is an independent attorney for the Justice department that is loyal to her brothers and is willing to help them and their cause not matter the personal cost. She is attracted to Murda but cannot get a read on him to see if he is different than other jerks she has dated in the past.

Both Murda and Kat have secrets that have to come to light before they can move forward. They also have chemistry that is off the charts and once they finally give into their simmering passion they have to decide if they can trust one another to move forward because they both are finding hard to let go.

What I love most about the Hard Ink series the writing style. It is a told in a narrative that follows a new pair of love interests with each book.  This ensures that you never miss what is happening with the other couples as you embark on the newest journey. I will miss this series HARD but luckily for me they are just are just a reread away.

It is with a heavy heart I say a bittersweet goodbye to the gang at Hard Ink.  Thank you, Laura Kaye for hours and hours of exciting reading. I highly recommend you read the ENTIRE SERIES! (Links below)

See the world of Fifty Shades of Grey anew through the eyes of Christian Grey.

In Christian's own words, and through his thoughts, reflections, and dreams, E L James offers a fresh perspective on the love story that has enthralled millions of readers around the world.

Christian Grey exercises control in all things; his world is neat, disciplined, and utterly empty—until the day that Anastasia Steele falls into his office, in a tangle of shapely limbs and tumbling brown hair. He tries to forget her, but instead is swept up in a storm of emotion he cannot comprehend and cannot resist. Unlike any woman he has known before, shy, unworldly Ana seems to see right through him—past the business prodigy and the penthouse lifestyle to Christian’s cold, wounded heart.

Will being with Ana dispel the horrors of his childhood that haunt Christian every night? Or will his dark sexual desires, his compulsion to control, and the self-loathing that fills his soul drive this girl away and destroy the fragile hope she offers him?

This book is intended for mature audiences

This is a retelling from the enigmatic billionaire Christian Grey’s point of view. Much of the story is not a surprise to many that have read the original series. However every story has two sides right and that is what drew me to this installment. I wanted to know what the heck was up with this guy. Well now I know and I want more.

Yes Christian comes off as a grade A jerk at times but really there is a reason for his attitude, whether you agree with it or not. It was awesome to FINALLY know what was going through Christians head when Anna was hemming and hawing about signing the contract. We also get to see the real conversation he had with the Ice Queen Elena and what poor Christian went through those fateful 5 days that they were broken up. There is also insight into his dreams that tell a little more about his childhood that as we all know was not a happy one.

I believe that Mrs. James has a whole new trilogy that she could write because this reviewer wanted more. I want to know what was going through Christian’s mind when he was keeping Anna in the dark about Leila, about Jack Hyde, about sooo much.

This is a great read for the FSOG fan as long as you do not expect a whole new story.

Grey, we all wanted a peek into that twisted mind.  I prefer Christian to remain the enigma that he was.  I loved getting a peek of his warped psyche, but it showed how weak he was.  It was a bit repetitive but that is to be expected, it is another POV of the same book.  They are all like this.
I didn't like my Grey to be so weak. I loved it when he showed a sensitive side toward his employees. I did like knowing more about his childhood.  Even though I wanted Christen to remain that enigma, I like getting see his conversations between him and others.  It did portray Anna to be a lot stronger than I gave her credit for too.
We get to know about the days Anna and Christen was apart.  We see the pain and agony he went through.  Oh, and that food issue!  MS Jones, she did, in MHO, help turn Christen around, there at the end.
Yes, this is the same book, basically. Did we expect it to be completely new?  How could it be? I enjoyed it but are we ever going to get NEW material from James?  Let's see if you can write a different book.
I recommend this book if you loved FSOG, or if you thought in that first book Christen was a monster.  This gives you a better view of why and that maybe what is going through one's head isn't what comes out of their mouth.

Synopsis

Picture
A sexy, former SEAL and beautiful Mayan anthropologist find more than they bargain for when they team up to complete a decades old family treasure hunt in Cancun. From crystal clear waters to hot, steamy nights, they must work together to escape the danger waiting for them on the Riviera Maya. KaLyn Cooper has penned an exciting, spicy tale of love in the first book of her new, contemporary series, In Cancun. Curl up in your favorite chair and escape to the beautiful Caribbean with Christmas In Cancun.

Busy building a new career with his catamaran company, former SEAL Jack Girard had all but forgotten about his grandfather’s quest to find the golden Mayan goddess statues until his brother’s beautiful widow, Jillian, and adorable daughter, Addison, arrive in Cancun with the research. His need to complete the family mission is almost as strong as his desire for Jillian.

Between raising her daughter alone and finishing her doctorate in Mayan anthropology, Jillian doesn’t have time for a man in her life, although, after mourning for two years, she’s ready for one in her bed.

An underwater Virgin Mary statue and centuries-old manuscripts lead the two of them through the Mayan Riviera and directly into danger.

During steamy Caribbean nights together, will they develop the ability to move on and discover the real treasure is family?

Donya's Review

*I was gifted this book for an honest review.

I don’t know what I was expecting when I began this book, but I was stunned. It was fantastic! The story centers on Jack, a former Navy seal, who runs a tourist boating business in Cancun, and Jillian, an anthropologist who is also his brother’s widow, as they search for hidden Mayan treasure. Intertwined with actual facts, this was a fascinating story from beginning to end.

Kalyn’s inclusion of two-year old Addison, Jillian’s daughter and Jack’s niece was expertly done. It would have been so easy to write about a baby, and forget to include the toddler in key scenes, but Kalyn managed to blend believable action for all of the characters.

This was not only an exciting book, but also a heartwarming tale of two people who begin an enchanting romance, while also being able to grieve over the shared loss of someone they both loved. I am truly in love with this book and I am now a huge fan of Kalyn Cooper. I give this book 5 stars!!

Donya's Review

*I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.

I loved Chantal Fernando's first book - Dragon's Lair. So when I found out that this would be a series, I couldn't wait. There is nothing worse than having an overprotective brother, except when your brother is also in a MC. And the man you have your sights on is not only a club member, but also refuses to look at you because of his own self inflected punishment because of the death of his former girlfriend, Mary.

I loved this book. Arrow's Hell is an excellent followup to Dragon's Lair, and wonderful continuation in the Wind Dragon MC Series. Arrow is such a contradiction to his character in Dragon's Lair. I like the fact that it is the female lead pursuing the male lead. Anna is adamant in her attraction to Arrow and doesn't allow the macho males to run over her.

This is an excellent MC series and I'm looking forward to more. I'm giving Arrow's Hell 4 stars.

Power Station by T Gephart

Rock Star? Angie Morelli was not one. Growing up next to Power Station’s drummer didn’t guarantee a taste of the limelight, unless you count catcalls at low paying gigs in seedy bars and second-rate venues. She was okay with that; working her ass off at her dad’s mechanic shop during the day meant she could live her dream at night. She didn’t need Power Station waltzing back into her life, Jason Irwin had done enough damage the first time. Could she let go of her hurt for a chance of hitting the big time?

A one-night stand right before Jason Irwin left for his big break was no big deal. Except it wasn’t just any girl— it was Angie, Troy’s hot but young and inexperienced neighbor. It should never have happened, so best he pretend like it didn’t. Ten years later he remembered exactly why he went down that road. She was even hotter and she was also pissed as hell. Sounded like the perfect combination to invite on their world tour.

The road was not the place for history. It was bound to get ugly.

Review

I'm a fan of the Power Station series so I was excited to receive an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Jase and Angie had a brief relationship ten years prior that ended abruptly and not on good terms. They see each other again when Power Station needs Angie's band Black Addiction to be their opening act. When Black Addiction goes on the road with Power Station, Angie and Jase must learn how to be around one another without their leftover tension and anger, causing problems on the tour.
It doesn't take long before their attraction kicks in and old feelings stir up. Angie tries to resist Jase with everything she has but they end up in a friends with benefits arrangement because that is all Jase thinks he is capable of.
Angie was a very likeable character for me. She is strong and proud. She doesn't like to put herself out there in relationships because of the horrible way Jase ended things between them all those years prior.
Jase is sweet and sexy. He thinks he is damaged and no good for Angie and that he is doing her a favor by keeping things strictly "sex only."
I really loved this final book in the series and I'm sad to see it come to an end but I'm looking forward to whatever T. comes up with next!
I'm giving Back Stage 5 stars

I just finished reading and I am super excited. There must be another book! I can feel the story line before me and I am chomping at the bit to see if it unfolds the way I believe it's going to go! When I first started reading it, I wasn't sure what the plot line of this book was going  be but I was pleasantly surprised and a little shocked with the direction this book went. This story tells of a young girl Emily, who is a bit of a social outcast. One night she experiences a tragedy only to walk away with a super power. Over time she realizes she is not alone, her best friend and the new boy in school also have powers. Of course, what good is having super powers if there is not a way to use them? They set out to stop the individual who has be murdering people around town.

I have to say I feel like there is something about this town. There must be something in the water if you know what I mean. I can't wait to see who we discover next!

My Review

One of the measures of a good romance book is, if you took away the sex part, would there still be story.  Kay Manis is excellent with this measure.  My Moto Boy isn't only a sexy read!

When I picked up My Moto Boy, I had certain expectations.  Well, I expected it to have great steamy scenes, Manis maybe she has a great research and development team.  I expected it to be excellently written, and she is a gifted story teller.  All of those things were in this book.

The thing I didn't expect with this book, is the emotional depth of this book. This is not to say, I didn't think Manis was capable of this aspect, but this is to let you know what to expect when you read this book.

Dana is more than the B that she wants everyone to see.
Peter isn't a dumb jock.

Dana really surprised me, she showed a full range of emotions in this book.  She went through a couple of different situations that allowed us to see beneath that cold surface.  She really is a vulnerable, sweet, caring woman.
(I loved some of the things she called Jillian and her inner thoughts)

Peter is our true hero and he proves this to Dana in more ways than one.  He shows this to us through knowledge, dedication and of course sexy brawn!  I loved he had a tad bit of a softer side, that hid right under the surface.  It would bubble up and give us a little peek, giving that awe moment.

Manis had to bring a grandma is the mix and make me cry.  She was barely mentioned but that dang Manis did it anyway.

Pick up My Moto Boy!  It's a 5 star read in my book!

More Than a Fling by Amber Nation

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

More Than A Fling by Amber Nation is book two in the Cottage Grove series. This is More Than your normal romance book, Nation has a lesson hidden deep inside if your willing to listen. This book is a bit of a second chance novel and a lot of learning to let go and love yourself.

My heart went out to Julia.  She has all these defense mechanism in place to protect herself for getting hurt. You know there are some deep scars, they she is carrying around and you want to help her.  Nation did a great job with the emotional descriptions, allowing the readers to felling the her pain and bitterness (somewhat).

Dean, who could not love him?  Well Julia at first!  He was a sweetheart through and through that still knew how to get things done. *WINK WINK*

You don't want to miss More Than a Fling, you need to see why Amber Nation, is on her way to the top!  This is indie greatness at it's finest.

My Review

Picture
This is a fast paced journey into the seedy underworld that is organized crime in Boston. Told from a third person point of view you are engrossed into the psyche of all the characters and you feel as if you are there watching the story unfold.

There are three main families in this tale of corruption, power and greed.

The Sheridan’s of which we have Colm the patriarch and Callista (Callie).

The O’Malley’s of which you have Seamus the patriarch and 7 children Aiden, Cillian, Carrigan, Teague, Sloan, Devlin and Kiera.

Finally you have the Halloran’s with Victor the patriarch and his three children Brandon, James and Ricky.

Callie Sheridan and Brandon Halloran are engaged. After Brandon’s murder and  Callie's sudden betrothal to Teague O'Malley the very next day, Victor Halloran is out for vengeance and this means war.

Teague is unhappy with his family’s way of doing things but he loves his sibling has sworn to protect them at all costs. Callie is her father’s last remaining child and she will do anything to ensure the Sheridan empire does not go extinct.  They both agree to the arrangement out of family loyalty but get so much more.

Callie and Teague are magnificent together. They have chemistry right off the bat and it is sweet and sexy. Callie is written strong and independent with nothing but love and devotion to her father and her late brother. Teague is sexy yet deadly and he is written as a force to be reckoned with but also a man with a heart of gold. So with the sparks (not to mention bullets) flying around them is it just a matter of time before the "arrangement" becomes a choice?

The supporting characters bring a lot to the story and are very well written. They are developed and the story includes them seamlessly nothing seems forced or contrived.

There is everything that you can expect from a crime novel, drive bys, abductions, murder and suspense.

Katee Roberts has hooked me into this series and I cannot wait for the next book.
