Book Two of Maggie Adam's Tempered Steel Series, LEATHER AND LACE Sam Coalson, ex-Navy Seal, has returned to Grafton for the wedding of his brother. After being run out of town fifteen years ago for a crime he didn’t commit, he’s determined to claim what is rightfully his and take on anyone crazy enough to try and stop him.

Angel Devereaux is smart, sexy and definitely on Sam’s blacklist. After siding with Sam’s enemy fifteen years ago, Angel can’t help but wonder what if….what if Sam had never left? What if he could forgive her now? She had her reasons, but he won’t listen. So enough with words, sometimes action is exactly what’s called for.

I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.

Leather and Lace by Maggie Adams is the second book in the Temper Steel Series.  Ms. Adams combines sass, quick wit, plenty of sexual tension and suspense to make this a page turner.  She includes in her books a strong family tie which makes this a realistic southern book without going over the top, which by the way drives me crazy.  The Coalson family reminds me of my own, they stick together, give each other a hard time, and have a mama that is sweet as pie but strong as an ox! She will bless your heart, pray for you but you mess with one of her kids and she is there- no matter what the cost (like a mama bear).

Sam and Angel's story started when they were just teenagers; their love was true and, believe it or not, lasting.  Well it was until her daddy found out and promptly decided she was dating beneath herself.  Sometimes arrogant, aristocratic, old  Southern daddies have a different way at looking at life.  You see, appearance is everything. How the family appears in the communities eyes equates to the family's status symbol; therefore, appearance is put before the family's desires or true love. This is what happen to Angel, bless her heart, her daddy kept her from the love of her life.

Well form the teasers you can tell they are gonna hook back up!  Let me tell you when they do, it is like fireworks on the Fourth of July! It's. Smoking. Hot.  Sam's all don't you wear any panties- and Angel's like, I didn't wear any  and lookie lou right here!!  Then there are some twist and turn that makes things dangerous.  Sam is all protective cave man, Angel is a heroine in her own right, so you know how well that works.  So, who saves who, and with what little talent that they have up their sleeve?   Can't give away the good stuff or I wouldn't be able to review anymore books! Just take my word for it- One Click!

Adams shows depth is her characters and I loved the dual POV's. She has the dialect perfect and her setting is spot on! I always love getting in the head of those alpha males, and she did not disappoint.  She showed his broody dark side well.  With Angel, what I loved that Adams did with her is that she didn't make her that weak damsel in distress, that is what we need ladies!  Strong women that ALLOWS those alpha males do their thing- no doormats here- Adams will never allow that!
I give Leather & Lace 5 stars

Empathy is an emotion that has always evaded Cam Farrell, president of the Moroad Motorcycle Club and prisoner #18794. He's gambled with his life to finish the gun chain running across the states, get the majority of his MC brothers working inside the prison system, and place the smoke screen in Federal, Idaho. He only needs one more thing—Christina. What he wants, he takes, and freedom doesn't mean a damn thing.

Christina Nickelson keeps to herself and uses her part-time job for Silver Valley's Department of Children's Services to help those who are also alone and hurting. The anger and fear she thought she'd overcome after her parents were murdered resurfaces when an ex-convict and leader of a motorcycle club claims a teenage boy in her care. She can't let her worries go. Putting herself at risk, she finds herself held hostage, witnessing a murder, and questioning fate. The only person she can rely on is the biker who will kill her if she tries to leave

Wrapped Around Him

Could you fall in love with someone you’ve never met only by reading his letters? What if that someone was also a prisoner? That is exactly what happens to Christina Nickelson. After the brutal murder of her parents, she begins to correspond with prisoner #18794 to gain more insight into the mind of a criminal. She didn’t expect the connection she felt. Just as she was beginning to heal, the letters stop. Determined to keep living and drawing on the strengths that the letters give her, she becomes a social worker. Her most challenging charge, Jeremy has just been taken out of her care and given to his father, Cam Farrell. Cam is the president of the Moroad Motorcycle Club and Christina is convinced he’s not a good father. Cam has been watching Christina and decides it’s time that he take what is his. Cam was prisoner #18794 and it was Christina’s letters that gave him hope.

I loved this book! Even though Cam kidnapped Christina to ensure she stayed with him, he gave her independence and power. There is humor in giving a woman a loaded gun and telling her to shoot you if she feels threatened. Christina helps him to connect with and show compassion to his son and become the father he never expected himself to be.

If I had any complaints it would be that I would’ve liked more development for the secondary characters in the Moroad MC. I can see possibilities for several of the “brothers” and I hope to read more of their personalities and story lines as this series continues. This book can be read as a standalone, but what makes it an excellent book is the fact that I want to know what happens next, I HAVE to know what happens next, and the story stayed with me well after I finished it.

I’m giving this book a 4.5 star rating. This is an expressive beginning to a new MC series.

So, I was scrolling through Facebook and found a discussion about Debra Kayn and thought I would try one of her books.  I was so happy to see that Kayn newest book was released and that it started a new series, so I one-clicked WRAPPED AROUND HIM and jumped in. I have to tell you that I really liked it. I didn’t think I would at first, and I think, I thought it was going to be something else, but I really did like it in the end.

In the beginning, I was not a big fan of Christina. I am not really sure why, but I think I like characters that are unbelievably strong in the very beginning, and I just never saw Christina as very strong until towards the end of the book. I think it just bothers me in the beginning because I do not know the characters, but as the story evolved and Christina’s past came to light, I understood her and found that my first thoughts were way off. She is a survivor and I really liked Cam, so, as their love story progressed, I saw her weaknesses as strengths, and Kayn did an excellent job in making these two compatible.

Now, Cam on the other hand, kind of scared me at first. I had no idea how he was ever really going to be anything other than scary. I mean, he is the leader of the Moroad Motorcycle Club and just got out of prison. He was a big, scary dude. However, Kayn takes that big, scary dude and turns him into more of a human being that can love and be loved and not just be loyal. Christina needed security and I loved that Cam was able to provide what she needed.

The only thing that I thought was lacking was friendship. I know that Cam is the leader of the Club but I would think that he would have someone he talked to. I just missed the banter other characters could have played in the book and I wanted Christina to bond with some other girl or something. I just felt that even though they have each other, there was so much loneliness. I mean, Jeremy was in the house but not really. I can’t really put my finger on it but I just wanted more for all of them.

With all that being said, I really did like the story and the twists and turns and I want to read the next book, FOR LIFE. I have a feeling what I am missing will be in the second book and I would recommend WRAPPED AROUND HIM.

WRAPPED AROUND ME by Debra Kayn receives 4 out of 5 Stars for me.

Wrapped Around Him by Debra Kayn is the first book in the Mohead Motorcycle Club series.  This a different MC book, and that's a good thing, it's not a cookie cutter book.  Kayn had my attention early and kept me engaged, on the edge of my seat until the big surprise at the end.

I loved the concept of this book, a woman needing consoling,  and the strength to live,  contacts a prison inmate to ask questions about the criminal mind.  The whole book could have been about that right there and I think it could have held my attention.  That was just the prologue.  The story just kept getting better from there.

Christina is a social worker and she really cares, loves the kids that are under her care.  Her heart goes out to them, and just because the case has closed, doesn't the child has left her thoughts and doesn't mean she has quit checking on them. She goes the extra mile for these kids.  That is where we find her, checking on Jeremy, because Christina worries about him being release into his dads custody.  Something just didn't sit right with her and she is determined to keep Jeremy safe.

Cam is fresh out of prison, he is the president of the Mohead MC Club. Life has never meant nothing to him, he shows no remorse for anything he does, it just not in him to have empathy.  He takes what he wants and he doesn't have any issues on how he has to get it.

This is  good vs. evil, devil vs. saint, want and desire....   It kept me reading way past my bedtime.  This was my first book by Debra Kayn.  Now, I don't think I'll be able to get enough of her.

I give this book 4.5 stars

EMPATHY   by  Ker Dukey

Blake:
I am a brother
I am a police detective
I am a contract killer
I don’t want to love
I don’t want to feel
I don’t want … EMPATHY.

They say some people are born with decreased activity in the front central lobe causing them a deficiency in empathy. Maybe that’s true about me but whether I was born this way or created in a moment of evil, empathy was something I didn’t possess until her green eyes met mine in the mirror and I couldn’t take her life.

I didn’t want to feel, didn’t want this woman in my life complicating how I lived but she was there at every turn. Sent to haunt me for my sins. Her light so bright she provoked a shadow from everyone she touched. When a job turns bad quickly altering my life forever I’m forced to feel. When nothing is making sense I’m forced to face truths I never would recover from. When life drowns you in its cruelty you don’t know which way the current will drag you or who you’ll become once you re-surface.

Melody:
I was a daughter
I was a student
I was a victim
Did I have his love?
Did I make him feel?
Did I have his empathy?
When the actions of a soulless killer forces sorrow into my veins I never dreamed the man healing my wounds would be the one to leave the worst scar. His love would scar my soul. Scars are permanent; I will never feel the relief from them. Will I learn to live with them, remember why I have them and learn never to let him close enough to inflict more? Will I eventually cover them… like tattoos coating them with new memories, new love and new starts? I didn’t know these answers because the pain was too suffocating, the only thing I knew was they will always be under the surface lingering. He had scars too, from his sins. There is nothing that can cover them, they were too deep, too ugly, too dark and they marked us both forever.

Warning: This book will mess with your mind. It is a very dark, sexy, twisted romance novel. 18+ only.

Empathy by Ker Dukey is a dark read, and I love dark reads. I started reading Empathy this morning and finished this afternoon. It over took my brain and took possession of me and I had no control, I had to finish reading it in one day- I had no choice!

So, Blake and his brother Ryan has had a really had life. Things that happened to them growing up changed them and altered the way they felt about things- it made them dark. I mean really dark people, most of the time you would stay away from people like this.

Melody has had the ideal parents and has lead the ideal happy go lucky life. She is in college, she sits next to Ryan in one of her classes, she thinks he is smart. She gets to be his friend.

Melody gets an urgent email from her mom asking her to come home. She rolls her eyes, but heads after class knowing it will be a long drive. She gets there that night and her whole world changes.

Melody is the ultimate heroine! She is so kind, loving and compassionate and how she got messed up with these two brothers does make one really great story.

Blake and Ryan you will hate them at times but you will think maybe they are redeemable. Oh, see he is being sweet- then it's like oh, no he didn't! Both of these guys become obsessed with Melody, one really cares about her. The other has more issues than Cosmopolitan to care about anybody. One will be her saving grace and the other will show his CRAZY side.

This is one of the best stories I've read this year, I'm always on the lookout for my next epic read. I'm a self proclaimed author stalker, so if I see someone and especially another author talking about a book that was so good they could not put it down, I go and buy it. That is what I did! I was not disappointed!! I probably could write a review a mile long complimenting this book but if I say much more I will probably let something slip! I will say Ker Dukey can WRITE!!

I give this 5 awesomely dark stars!!

EMPATHY by Ker Dukey

I get a call from my Bestie and the only thing she says is, “Are you done with the book you are reading? Good, you have to read this.”  I know I am in trouble.  She reads so much more than I do but we have a major passion for a lot of the same books and when she calls me and says “read this”, just like when I call her and say “read this”, we stop and do it. I knew it was going to be so good but holy heck, I did not know it would be this good.  I cannot even begin to express my feelings for EMPATHY!! The whole time you think one way and it turns out to be a completely different way. This is a dark read but I kept thinking, it’s not so dark. WRONG!!!

EMPATHY by Ker Dukey is one of those books that gets under your skin. I could not but it down. I had to at times because my kids think they have to be feed every day but I would soon return and pick it up. When I was not reading, I would think about it. There are so many twist and turns that hit me blindside, I never saw some of the things that happen coming.

Basic of the story without any spoilers, Melody is a girl stuck between two brothers. One is a cold-hearted killer and the other, well let’s just leave it at that.  I finished this book in a day in half, which is super-fast for me and if you are fast reader, it will not take you any time. I am so thankful that DESOLATE is already out, because I think I would die knowing there is more to the story but I have to wait to get it.

Melody, Blake, and Ryan are not three characters that will be forgotten. This book is just amazing. Murder, Suspense, Sexual Hotness, Surviving and how evil never wins (or maybe it does) makes EMPATHY a huge success and one that I will recommend to anyone that listens.  EMPATHY is a standalone without a cliff hanger but leaves you thinking there is more to the story. I promise you will love this book.

EMPATHY by Ker Dukey receives 5 out of 5 Stars

Unexpected Fate by Harper Sloan

Have you ever felt like you were living your life for a future that was predetermined? Like there was some bigger picture you just prayed you would someday see clearly? That picture has been crystal clear to me since I was old enough to recognize it for just what it was.

Or I should say recognize him for who he was.

I’ve loved Cohen Cage since I was a small child. He’s been my everything for the last twenty-two years. I’ve loved him through every girlfriend he’s ever brought home. Through his college years and then mine. I’ve loved him through two deployments. And ever since the day I told him how I felt, he’s acted like I’m a stranger.

My name is Danielle Reid, and it’s time for me to get my man.

Our future is an unexpected fate, and no matter what our parents, siblings, and friends say…it’s going to be worth every second of the fight to make it happen.

Picture
Grown up Cohen is Hot with a flaming capital "H"!  There just are not enough "hot" words to describe him.  I fell in love with little Cohen Cage and his red cape but I end up drooling over the grown up Cohen.  I am in awe!  Harper Sloan has really done it with Unexpected Fate.  I fell in love with all of the men and their leading ladies in The Corps Security Series.  Writing about their children, all grown up, now that is just pure genius!
And the focus of this story is all about Cohen Cage and Dani Reid!  And wow have they grown up!   These two burn up the pages telling their story!  I was immediately captivated by the alpha personality of Cohen.  I mean, that's why we all fell in love with The Corps Security men!  But what I find funny is, that Dani decides she is taking what she wants! I mean, she is Axel Reid's daughter! Go get 'em girl!

The characters were all well written, and that includes the secondary characters that are just screaming to tell their story!  We catch just a small glimpse of the couples we originally fell in love with in The Corps Security Series, but I have a feeling we are going to see great things from the younger generation.  There are some tough acts to follow!  I can't wait to see what Harper Sloan has in store for us!

Withering Hope by Layla Hagen

Picture

Aimee’s wedding is supposed to turn out perfect. Her dress, her fiancé and the location—the idyllic holiday ranch in Brazil—are perfect.

But all Aimee’s plans come crashing down when the private jet that’s taking her from the U.S. to the ranch—where her fiancé awaits her—defects mid-flight and the pilot is forced to perform an emergency landing in the heart of the Amazon rainforest.

With no way to reach civilisation, being rescued is Aimee and Tristan’s—the pilot—only hope. A slim one that slowly withers away, desperation taking its place. Because death wanders in the jungle under many forms: starvation, diseases. Beasts.

As Aimee and Tristan fight to find ways to survive, they grow closer. Together they discover that facing old, inner agonies carved by painful pasts takes just as much courage, if not even more, than facing the rainforest.

Despite her devotion to her fiancé, Aimee can’t hide her feelings for Tristan—the man for whom she’s slowly becoming everything. You can hide many things in the rainforest. But not lies. Or love.

Withering Hope is the story of a man who desperately needs forgiveness and the woman who brings him hope. It is a story in which hope births wings and blooms into a love that is as beautiful and intense as it is forbidden.

Review

Withering Hope by Layla Hagen is a story of survival.  Having hope in someone other than yourself to help you make it through the hard time in your life.  What caught my attention about Withering Hope was another blog had it as one of their best of 2015.  When you see a blog that has tons of followers you want to trust they know what they are talking about.

I did find this story inspiring in a way, I mean your in a jungle and you fight every element to just stay alive.  Every story that has ever been wrote about a survival situation has all been the same.  So this book wasn't anything different.  It was sweet, yes but will I remember it next month- no.  To me that is the mark of a good book.  I will be able to read the synopsis and say yeah the one about the plane crash, but that will probably be all I can recall.  I still enjoyed the read, I still thought it had sweet tender moments.  It was just okay for me.  Nothing I found wrong with it, it was wrote okay, the characters were developed okay.

The blog that I follow and receive the emails from rated this a 4 star but it is on a list of best of 2015 for the year.  They have other 5 start reviews, but aren't on the list???? I'm not understanding their way of thinking.  Thanks okay, I still have gotten many wonderful books to read off of that blog and I have read, reviewd and done my own blog post about them.

I give this book 3 stars

mock up Love Trusting When trust is broken by loss and grief, can it ever be repaired? High school sweethearts and young lovers, Brad and Suzy had vowed to stay together forever. “I’ll always be here for you. Trust me,” Brad promised but loss separated the young lovers. Moving on with their lives, neither could fill the empty void nor forget their first love. Suzanne McDonald had closed herself off to dating in spite of the best efforts of her friends to play matchmaker and threw herself into her job as a veterinarian technician. Brad, now known as BJ to his friends, had focused on his career as a computer programmer for Alverez Security Agency. When a mutual friend played matchmaker between BJ and Suzanne, the two were stunned to be reunited. Her grief, still raw after all these years, had her running away once again. Brad knew he had let her leave years ago when he was a young man but now vowed to show her that they were still meant for each other. In spite of the walls she had built around her heart, Brad was determined to break them down and earn her love and trust once again. When Suzanne stumbles across evidence of organized crime taking place in her neighborhood, she puts herself at risk trying to save others. Can Brad rescue Suzy before she is silenced permanently? Can she trust in Brad’s love to save her?   Early Reviews: *****The magic and talent this author has to combine a riveting story of intrigue, that kind that at times has you on the edge of your seat filled with characters that breathe the life into it leaves you feeling like you are walking in their world. You experience the kind of love that is raw and passionate that happens between two people and in this case will only get stronger than ever before that will enable them to once again trust each other that will help them overcome and endure whatever comes their way this time. The intrigue part of this novel is also quite fitting, perfect with these characters and matches right in with the caliber of many of the other authors out there who write thrillers with romance. Once you begin this you will not stop until the final page. *****Maryann Jordan's sixth book and third in the Love series. She has taken two of my favorite things hot alpha males and second chance romances and rolled them into one awesome book. ***** I would give this more than 5 stars if possible. This is a stand alone but these characters were first introduced in the Fairfield Series as teenagers. Besides a love story, this book is filled with suspense, action and mystery. In true MaryAnn Jordan style, she brings in characters from past books we love and has us falling for the new ones that we can't wait to find out more about their story. amazon_goodreads

I was intrigued with Brad and Suzanne immediately. I cried at the beauty of their relationship and then the loss that quickly stripped all the beauty of that night away. How can something so right become tainted by something so bad?
Fast forward a few years; a new life, faithful friends and some new friends. Somehow, when two people are destined to be together, life finds a way to bring them back together. But is there a way to work through all of the events of the past? Suzanne is now grown up and forging ahead with her life as a vet tech when Brad is reintroduced into that life. Suzanne's job is exciting and she loves her work, but finds herself in the middle of some dark, hidden activities that could cost her everything. In steps Brad to be Suzy's knight in shining armor!
Brad is now a grown up hunk of a man. In all his alpha, possessive male ways, Brad will do anything to protect what he let go of all those years ago, but will Suzy be willing to let him?
This book was full of love, loss, second chances, action, and thrilling excitement. I was on the edge of my seat at times trying to help Suzy and Brad work through their issues, past and present!

Review

Death of a Rock Star by NJ Frost has been getting a lot of buzz on Goodreads and Facebook.  When a book gets a lot of talk and is hyped up, I have to read it!  I'm like a moth to a flame. I just can't resist a good book, I loved to be sucked into a world of any kind. Hello, I'm addicted to reading.  When I saw one of my favorite authors posting about this book and how great she thought it was, I was on board to one click this baby from her recommendation alone.

I'm sure I will get verbally abused over this review, but hopefully everyone can understand that every book isn't for every person.  You know what they say, no two people read the same book.  I guess that is why it is important for reviewers to leave honest reviews.  That way other readers know more about the book, and can make a decision on weather or not to read the book.

I really had a hard time connecting with the characters in this book.  I understand this is a novella, but I just felt like there wasn't enough information to draw me into the story, or to make me want to know what was going to happen next. I really wanted to be drawled into this story, I really think it would be an amazing story, it has the makings of one.  I got about have way through it and put it down for a few days and read something else.  I came back and started the story from the beginning.   I still felt like I was missing something in the story.

For me this book was just okay. It just didn't have that wow factor I was hoping for with all the hype I was reading about online.  So maybe I was expecting too much for a novella, who knows.  Did it make me want to buy the first book in the series, verdict is still out.  What does come to mind though, is for me to be careful of what I recommend to my followers, if I say something is great and a must read- I want you guys to know I'm being 100% honest with you.

I give this book 3 stars
