Blue Echohawk is the main character. She's sullen and angry at the world. She was dealt a really crappy hand in life and is just trying to keep her head above water. She was abandoned by her mother when she was around two years old an left with a complete stranger. A man at that. Luckily for her this man, Jimmy, took great care of her. They didn't have much and because of Blue not being his child they moved around a lot. This poor girl didn't even know how old she was. That's not even the worst part. One day Jimmy goes out and never comes back. Blue is left alone until she is forced to seek help. She later finds out that Jimmy is dead. How traumatic! Luckily for her Jimmy has a sister that is willing to take her in. As Blue grows older she becomes more withdrawn and seeks the only love that she thinks she deserves. She becomes promiscuous. It isn't until she is a high school senior that things start to change for her. She meets a teacher that changes her life for good. Mr Wilson is British and teaches history. He assigns them a paper to do on their own personal history. Blue doesn't know what to say. She doesn't know her people or where she comes from and she doesn't know how she really is. When she finds out she's pregnant Blue realizes that she must find out about her real past. She needs to know where she came from and about the woman who left her with Jimmy. She not only finds out that she has a family but her and Wilson take the journey together.
This story has so much depth and so many feelings in it that you can't not love it! The characters are so multi-dimensional and well written. The story line will hook you and not let you go until the end. Even though this is a book about Blue finding herself there is a romance too. This book has it all! You must read this book!
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars!
