What does your writing process look like?
Our writing process may look different than many other authors because we work as a team. Before we actually get together to write, we call, text, or message each other ideas to think about for our actual writing time when we sit side by side. It’s not uncommon to hear our phones chime a 2:00 am because one of us had a dream or idea to add to the story the next day. When we actually get together, we bounce ideas back and forth, usually adding to or twisting the plot we’ve been thinking about for a few days. When we finally sit down to write, we are side by side on google docs racing each other to get our ideas into text. More often than not, we are able to finish each other’s sentences. It’s pretty eerie.
If you could cast your characters in the Hollywood adaptation of your book, who would play your characters?
If you could be a character in any novel you've ever read, who would you be and why?
Tracy: Allie from The Notebook. I want to live the romance Allie got to live when Noah jumped up on the Ferris Wheel and asked her to go out with him. I love to mess with people and want to be the girl who’s not afraid to pants Noah despite the fact that he told her she wouldn’t!
Julie: I would be Tris from Divergent, simply because she is a BA rebel who isn’t afraid to fight the biotch who runs the government. Not to mention, she gets to play with Four all day and all night! I’d fight with/for Theo any day ;)!
What writing advice do you have for other aspiring authors?
Keep a journal and write stuff down! Don’t forget to text yourself ideas! Everyone has inspirational quotes and a story to tell and it really stinks when you forget what they are. ;)
Do you read your reviews? Do you respond to them, good or bad? Do you have any advice on how to deal with the bad?
Well, if we could get reviews, we would read them. Just kidding… We read the ones they don’t pull off of Amazon. So far they’ve let us keep about 1/3 of them. Amazon doesn’t let you keep reviews written by friends, and our problem is we’ve never met a stranger. So, yes, we do read our reviews (and if you happen to write one, please don’t friend request us until after it’s been posted ;)). Seriously, yes. We do respond to people who take the time to write them. Our best advice we’ve gotten is not to read anything less than a three star. They tend to drain creativity and create writer’s block.
What's your next project?
We are currently writing book two of our Seasons of Jefferson Series. It has been so much fun to take our readers off the cliff we left them dangling from, and answer the questions we left them struggling with in When Fall Breaks.
If you could live one month on T.V., like it was your real life, which show would like to live on?
Julie: I’d live in Silver Spoons. I’ve always wanted to ride Ricky Schroeder’s train! Wait if we’re speaking about rides, I think I’ll take da plane ride to Fantasy Island to fulfil some of my tropical dreams.
Tracy: I’d be Tabitha from Bewitched! I totally want to wiggle my nose and get whatever or whoever I want. However, I’d ditch Darren; and, since Julie will be on Fantasy Island, I’m going to head on over to The Love Boat for my month of fun in the sun.
What's your favorite love story? (movie or book)
A favorite of both of ours is Present Perfect by Alison G. Bailey. If you haven’t read it yet, you need to. It’s such a TWEET story <3!
What’s your favorite line from any movie?
No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world. ~ Dead Poet’s Society
If we Googled your name what would we see?
Two nuts that act younger than their 5th grade students ;)
If you could have been told one thing that you weren't told when you were a teenager, what would you like to have heard?
Spoons really don’t work that well on hickeys!
If we weren't afraid I would _________ (What?)
Skydive over the Bermuda Triangle!!!!
Someday, I want to _________ (What?)
Retire to the tropics so we can party with the polynesian torch lighters who run around with eight packs and loin cloths. Dayreader reviewers, you ladies can join us.
Do you believe in love at first sight?
We’ve both fallen in love at first sight...it’s too bad they didn’t see us gawking at them through the silver screen. Hello Theo and Scott...we’re out here in Row 15A (The ones glamorously eating Red Vines)!
Does Prince Charming exist?
Duh, his name is Channing Tatum!
What are your pet peeves or interesting things about you that you dislike?
The worst thing you can do in front of either of us is double dip, or lick the orange cheese substance off of Cheetos and Doritos and stick your fingers back in the bag. Can you hear our double gag through your computer? YUCK!
Tell us about a unique or quirky habit of yours.
Julie: When I blow my nose, I honk so loud you can hear me across a playground.
Tracy: is perfect...she says she doesn’t even fart.
If someone made a movie of your life would it be a drama, a comedy, a romantic-comedy, action film, or science fiction? What would be the name of it, and who would play you?
Our life as friends would be a comedy. You would laugh at how dense we can be sometimes. We’re known as Thelma and Louise in this neck of the woods. It would be called Teachers Gone Wild. Cameron Diaz would play Julie and Kate Hudson would play Tracy.
If you were a genie, what wish would you absolutely not grant?
Umm...we are going to take the fifth on this question because our answer would involve politics or religion...two places we are not willing to go with desperate wishers.
Tea or coffee?
Julie likes tea.
Tracy likes coffee.
That might be the only thing we don’t agree on.
What specific thing have you done that impressed yourself.
It’s more of what we haven’t done. Both of us have the ability to show incredible restraint when necessary.
What's the naughtiest thing you have done in school?
While we were attending? Or while we taught there? Hmmm. We’d better not tell, just in case the principal is reading this.
Sing in the rain or dance in the streets?
We love singing in the streets...Especially in Chicago. You should head on over to our fb page to check out the video. We missed a flight and chose to play Laverne and Shirley as we skipped through the city. You can even hear the authentic whistle of a cop as we ran past him videotaping our antics. (This also doubles as our wackiest, silliest, or weirdest social networking site status).
Do you have nicknames?
Team Jusano is our nickname. We used to team teach. Our students blended our names because they said we were like the same person. They were a smart, perspective crew.
Have you ever gone cow-tipping?
We’ve gone. We just haven’t actually “tipped.” We left that up to the crazy cowboys we were with. Not sure people know how hard it actually is to pull it off.
Do you do dance crazy when no one is looking?
We dance crazy when people are looking! We don’t care who’s watching us ;)!
At the beach would you rather play in the sand, or play in the water?
We are both pool people. We’ll go with a nice, clean river, but that ocean is just too big and too vast to know what’s really out there. The beach is a beautiful place, but the ocean scares the hell out of both of us.
Do you scream on roller coasters?
Julie screams because she thinks it’s funny.
Tracy screams because she just pooped herself.
We guess we do have some differences.
Do you lift up your hands?
Guess which one lifts her hands in the air?
Would you rather see a movie at the theater or at home on DVD? Why?
We would rather watch a movie in a theater because you feel like you’re in the movie and you don’t have to clean up the popcorn mess.
You wouldn't be caught dead…
In a nudist camp. We would both die if someone saw either of us naked, especially after writing a book. Exercise is sparse these days.
